Privacy Policy

Melo is a vocabulary app built by one person. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is stored, and what you can do with it. It is written to be read, not to bury things.
What we collect
Melo collects only what it needs to work:
- An anonymous user identifier from Sign in with Apple
- A randomly generated Melo token tied to your account
- Vocabulary words you save during AI conversations — including the word, its meaning, IPA pronunciation, example sentences, and language
We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal information. Sign in with Apple is used precisely because it lets you authenticate without sharing identity details.
How your data is stored
Your vocabulary list is stored in Cloudflare KV, a cloud key-value store, keyed to your personal Melo token. The token is cryptographically random and unguessable. No one else can access your vocab list without knowing your token.
Cloudflare, Inc. — infrastructure only. Cloudflare does not have access to your data in any meaningful sense and does not process it for advertising or analytics.
How your data is used
Your vocabulary data is used for one purpose: displaying your saved words in the Melo app as flashcards and a browsable archive. That is it.
Your data is never sold, shared with third parties, used for advertising, or used to train AI models.
AI integrations
Melo connects to Claude via a Model Context Protocol (MCP) link. When you use this integration, words are saved to your Melo account by the AI during your conversations. Melo does not have any access to the content of your conversations — only the vocabulary entries the AI chooses to save.
Your conversation data stays between you and Anthropic. Refer to their privacy policy for how conversation data is handled on their end.
Your rights
You can do the following at any time:
- Delete individual words from your vocab list inside the app
- Delete your entire account and all associated data by contacting us
- Regenerate your Melo token, which invalidates the old one and migrates your data
Children
Melo is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the effective date at the top will be updated. For significant changes, a notice will appear in the app.
